Activism In Art Education

In an interactive online lecture, we’ll explore how can one navigate political issues within an educational structure? How can art educators integrate activism out of a critical viewpoint that allows for meaningful discussions and actions? What strategies can educators use to teach critical thinking skills while promoting a sustainable educational and artistic practice?

Júlia Pontés will discuss contemporary issues of activism within art education through her work and her new project called env-IRON-ment, funded by Anonymous Was a Woman/NYFA and fiscally sponsored by Blue Earth Alliance/CENTER. Júlia traveled 13,000 miles around the U.S. documenting active, idle, and former iron mines in 20 different states.
